During the official opening of the Joachim Rønneberg exhibition, Flatmark was honored
During the official opening of the Joachim Rønneberg exhibition, Flatmark was presented with flowers, gifts and not least words of praise for both the exhibition and the previous work he has done for Aalesunds Museum. It should only be missing when one looks back on his long-standing commitment to both the city's history and the museum
He has been a driving force in the war history department at Aalesunds Museum since the 1980s. Flatmark has for several years been one of the leaders of the war history association under the Friends of Aalesund Museum. A large and detailed historical archive has been built up and preserved, thanks to his efforts. Flatmark's in-depth factual knowledge is made clear through the thematic exhibitions on the museum's lower floor. He has had a hand on the war historical artefacts in both stock and in exhibitions. Flatmark's systematic and structural characteristics are clearly visible through the “architectural” responsibility he has had for the museum's recent exhibition about Joachim Holmboe Rønneberg.
As a former employee of the Ålesund Fire Department, he has of course also safeguarded this part of the city's history through extensive archival material. Alone or in collaboration with Harald Grytten, his writing has been useful as general public information, reference books and historical documentation. Jan Olav Flatmark has for many years been a sought-after speaker in a large geographical area. Without Flatmark's involvement and knowledge, Ålesund and many other municipalities on Sunnmøre have been far “poorer” within this part of the cultural heritage.
